A special discussion is underway between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Members of Parliament of the 11 political parties that declared themselves independent of the government.
The discussion is being held at the President’s House in Colombo, Fort.
Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara who spoke to media prior to the meeting said they proposed the formation of a national council and for all parties representing Parliament to be invited.
The MP said from this point they proposed the selection of a Prime Minister, a Cabinet of Ministers, Secretaries of Ministries and for the President to make relevant appointments, to which he agreed.
The MP further stated it is the prerogative of MPs to determine alternatives to address the present situation.
MP Jayasekara said if the Prime Minister does not step down, the public will work towards making him step down.
He claimed they are working towards eradicating nepotism in the country.
