Leader of the National People’s Power Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake has questioned the delay behind tabling a copy of the agreement to transfer 40% of shares of the Yugadanavi Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya, to an American firm in Parliament even though a considerable time period has passed since requests were made.

Speaking in Parliament today, MP Dissanayake said the Minister of Finance has no right to sign such agreements without disclosing facts to the public.

The Parliamentarian said there is no benefit of discussing the agreement during the debate on the expenditure heads of the Ministry of Power.

He said the debate on the expenditure heads of the Finance Ministry will be held on the 10th of December adding the Secretary to the Treasury must disclose to Parliament the details and any shortcoming of the agreement.

The MP said even though Minister Gamini Lokuge has been vested authority of the Finance Ministry, he cannot act on a whim or conceal facts from the public as he is a public representative.

MP Dissanayake said Parliament must be aware of all details of agreements that concerns the country’s power sector.

He questioned what the Speaker’s recommendation will be pertaining to the delay
