An individual has been arrested and remanded until the 4th of March on charges of selling an underage girl for sexual purposes.
The Police Children & Women Bureau arrested the 36-year-old suspect for allegedly selling the underage girl to individuals who molested and raped her.
Following further investigations, it was revealed the individual did not have a permanent job or residence.
It has been revealed that the suspect engaged in trading women for sexual purposes in various parts of the country during the past 18 years.
Police said although he did not have a permanent job, nearly Rs.40 million worth of transactions have taken place through eight bank accounts.
According to Police, the suspect was arrested by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division.
He was also arrested by Police on several occasions for operating brothels in other parts of the country and has been produced before court.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that he earned money by using the girl as well as the girl’s mother in prostitution.
The Illegal Assets Investigation Division is conducting further investigations to uncover other illegal assets of the suspect.
