An individual who provided information of a threat of a bomb explosion at the protest march yesterday has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division.
The suspect was arrested after the chief security officer of Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa lodged a complaint with the Cinnamon Gardens Police.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Talduwa said the suspect was identified to be suffering from a mental illness.
He said the suspect had left a note at the gate of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition describing the threat and that further information can be obtained from a particular bus.
A backpack containing notes with various information was seized by Police.
The Police Media Spokesman said investigations conducted thus far revealed that the suspect had been travelling around Colombo distributing such notes.
SSP Talduwa said the Colombo Crimes Division and the Cinnamon Gardens Police are conducting further investigations.
