The All Island Poultry Association says providing a continuous supply of chicken and eggs will be a challenge by April.
Speaking to NewsRadio, President of the Association Ajith Gunasekera cited a shortage of animal feed including maze as the reason for the disruption to supply.
He noted the demand for chicken and eggs increases during the months of December and April adding they must prepare for the increased demand.
He said therefore a request was made to the government to provide an opportunity to import animal feed that is in short supply at present.
Gunasekera further said the price of chicken is maintained between Rs.670-690 adding therefore consumers were not burdened.
He added the price of an egg which was at Rs.25, is decreasing at present.
Gunasekera claimed if they are able to import animal feed following discussions with the government next week, they will be able to provide the supply to meet the demand.
