Eight fields part of the Supplementary Joint Health Trade Union will engage in trade union action today and tomorrow by not reporting to work taking into consideration the fuel shortage and transportation related concerns.
The Public Health Inspectors, Family Health Officers, Laboratory Technicians, Entomologists, and several other fields will not report to work.
President of the Union Upul Rohana said PHI officers, ECG and EEG Technicians at hospitals, malaria and dengue inspectors, dental unions, and COVID-19 vaccine administrators will not report to work over the next two days.
Rohana also stated that maternity and infant clinics will also not function.
He said home births have increased due to various issues including the fuel shortage, adding that officers involved in home births will also join the union action.
Upul Rohana noted that apart from teaching and base hospitals, all other hospitals including general, and district hospitals and medicine supplies will be disrupted.
Rohana said if acceptable solutions are not provided the strike action will be conducted indefinitely from Monday
