Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says two substandard gas shipments that arrived in Sri Lanka recently, that were ordered not to be released to the market, have been released.
MP Premadasa said the government was committing a sin and a crime by releasing such substandard gas to the market and risking public lives.
The Opposition Leader said gas leak explosions have claimed several lives adding that the government must be held responsible.
Premadasa said he heard of a gas leak explosion in Lunugamvehera this morning and reiterated that the government has failed to ensure the safety of gas cylinders with explosions being reported daily.
He charged the government with failing to work according to stipulated standards.
MP Premadasa added the Sri Lanka Standards Institution has determined that both shipments of gas that arrived in the island are substandard.
He claimed that Court also issued a directive to work according to SLSI standards and questioned under whose directives and circumstances, officials decided to offload stocks on board one ship.
