The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to appoint a sub-committee to analyse and make amendments to the draft tabled pertaining to a new Constitution.
The Cabinet on the 9th of September 2020 appointed a committee comprising legal experts under the Chairmanship of President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva to draft a new Constitution.
The preliminary report of the committee was submitted to the President on the 25th of April this year.
The Cabinet accordingly decided to appoint a sub-committee comprising Ministers to study the content of the report and make suitable recommendations to the Cabinet.
The committee will be chaired by Foreign Minister Prof. GL Peiris and includes Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Douglas Devananda, Ramesh Pathirana, and Ali Sabry.
