The Ceylon Teachers Service Union says the strike action launched when schools with less than 200 students reopened yesterday is continuing successfully.
Taking to social media Chief Secretary of the Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said similar action will have to be taken in future if a favourable solution is not provided regarding salary anomalies.
Jayasinghe commended the teachers who took part in the strike action yesterday, to make it a success.
He noted they have been able to show the strength and power of teachers and principals. Jayasinghe added therefore authorities must take steps to provide prompt solutions to their demands, if they want to end the union action.
Mahinda Jayasinghe also refuted allegations claiming the trade union action was launched based on a political agenda.
He noted they took to the streets to fulfil their demands and to safeguard free education in the country.
