Police say strict action will be taken against those who violate health guidelines over the next few days.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said it is important that all individuals strictly adhere to health guidelines when visiting public gatherings such as places of worship, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, weekly fairs, bus stops and train stations.
SSP Thalduwa said Police Officers will enforce relevant laws against those found to be in violation of the health guidelines.
On a separate note, the Media Spokesman said Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Superintendent of Police across the island have been issued directives by the Inspector General of Police to deploy intelligence officers to gather information on public gatherings and provide the required level of security.
He said directives have also been issued to deploy military personnel in addition to Police officers if required.
SSP Thalduwa said all necessary arrangements are in place to deploy Traffic Police island wide from today, to cover the Christmas festival, till the end of the festive season.
He said Traffic Police will be deployed island wide to enforce law against drunk drivers, drivers who violate traffic regulations, and reckless drivers.
He said these officers will be on 24-hour duty.
