Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha thera claims the suppression of activists must be stopped immediately if President Ranil Wickremesinghe genuinely aspires to establish an all-party government.
Speaking to media in Embilipitiya, Sobhitha thera claimed it is impossible to win the trust of all parties by suppressing protesters.
The thera said the President has been informed both verbally and in writing to immediately form an all-party government, resolve prevailing issues and create an environment to hold a General Election.
Sobhitha thera urged the President to facilitate the public to choose the country’s future leaders.
Furthermore, Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha thera questioned the progress of investigations into the discovery of Rs.17.8 million by protesters inside the President’s House on 9th July.
The thera said the matter has been in the public eye. Sobhitha thera said the monthly salary of the Head of State is Rs.250,000 adding the total accumulation for two years will be Rs.3 million.
The thera therefore questioned how long it took to accumulate Rs.17.8 million if in fact the funds were accumulated over time.
Sobhitha thera said it is impossible for the President to accumulate such a sum even if his entire salary was saved.
The thera questioned how such an amount, found its way to the President’s House, who donated the funds and if so the purpose.
