The Lawyer’s Organisation for the National People’s Power warns that if the public acts violently, the people’s struggle could be brought to a halt under the state of emergency.
Member of the organisation Attorney Upul Kumarapperuma speaking to media from Galle Face yesterday requested the public to inform security forces of those committing acts of violence during the people’s struggle.
He added as citizens of the country, one must oppose any acts of violence regardless of where the people’s struggle is being worked off.
Kumarapperuma urged the public to report such incidents to the Police.
He noted that the state of emergency can bring an end to the people’s struggle over incidents such as violence, properties being set on fire, looting, and other illegal activities.
He said the people’s struggle at Galle Face has exceeded 30-days without any concerns or acts of violence until Monday, adding that this gives reason for the government to act.
