A stock of sugar, unfit for human consumption has been found at a private warehouse adjacent to the Dambulla Economic Center.
The stock of sugar was uncovered by the Health Department of the Dambulla Municipal Council, when a group was repacking the content imported from India, into packets labelled as imported from Dubai.
A complaint has been lodged with the Dambulla Police against the shop owner regarding the stock of substandard sugar.
Meanwhile, Mayor of the Dambulla Municipal Council Jaliya Opatha, who visited the location, said he received information that the racket has been carried out for several days.
He assured that steps will be taken to seal the shop. He reiterated that the Dambulla Economic Center is a hub of distributing fruits and vegetables to consumers island-wide.
Mayor Opatha revealed that certain businessmen were unafraid to feed the public, substandard products and generate profits which was problematic.
