Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board MMC Ferdinando says steps have been taken to recover overdue payments of electricity tariffs from politicians.
Speaking at a media briefing yesterday the CEB Chairman said issues arise periodically pertaining to electricity tariffs of politicians.
Ferdinando said electricity tariffs of politicians in official residences are either paid for by the government, the relevant Minister, or the Ministry, adding that the Ministry on most occasions fail to settle dues.
He noted when MPs change and new MPs assume residences, they fail to transfer their details and change recipients.
Referring to a recent incident of a politician’s power supply being disconnected owing to an overdue payment of Rs.10 million, Ferdinando said the individual highlighted that he has been at the residence only for a period of three months, adding that the previous politicians at the residence had failed to settle their tariffs which accumulated to Rs.10 million.
He noted that one politician who occupied the residence had passed away, adding that several such difficulties arise.
