The JVP says there is a tendency of state officials resigning from their posts due to political interference by Ministers.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo former Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti said another reason for officials to resign is corruption within state institutions, due to wrong decisions made by Ministers.
Handunnetti said the Chairman of the Tea Small Holdings Development Authority had to resign when concerns arose regarding fertiliser in the tea industry, while the Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board resigned while stocks were being collected.
He added the Executive Director of the Consumer Affairs Authority had to resign while prices of essential items were being decided.
Handunnetti claimed specialists in the COVID-19 mitigation unit had to resign while formulating a mechanism for the distribution of vaccines and its quality.
He stated when specialists make recommendations based on science, politicians intervene for their own political agenda.
He said therefore officials are unable to carry out their duties with self respect, and other Ministers remain silent.
