Former Parliamentarian Venerable Omalpe Sobitha thera says the failure by the Cabinet of Ministers to approve the recommendations of the Cabinet Sub Committee appointed to solve the teacher-principal salary anomalies issue, has led to members of the committee being disregarded.
Speaking at a media briefing, Sobitha thera the appointment of such a committee is futile if the recommendations it tables are not being implemented.
Omalpe Sobitha thera said the Sub Committee had proposed to pay one third of the amount requested by unions. Although the proposal was presented without being notified to unions, the Cabinet dismissed the proposal and had agreed to pay only 25 percent of the amount recommended by the subcommittee.
Venerable Omalpe Sobitha thera said the suggestion of such an amount is a humiliation not only for the protesting unions but also to the committee member who had to discuss the matter with various factions to arrive at the decision.
The Thera said the government should not appoint such committees, if it has no intentions of implementing recommendations.
