Former President Maithripala Sirisena says any assistance from the International Monetary Fund amidst the present crisis, will be a welcome relief.
Speaking to media in Colombo yesterday, the former President said the country’s people are facing a turbulent period.
The former President said any relief is welcome for the sake of the people in order to ease their burden. Former President Sirisena said the state of the government service is saddening, adding that all sectors including the state and private sector, businessmen, farmers, industrialists and others are affected by the prevalent economic crisis.
The former President added farmers lack fertiliser and diesel to engage in the trade highlighting that the entire working class is affected while a majority is in poverty.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena called for all factions to work together towards one programme to support the public.
