The Sri Lankan Rupee has depreciated by 44.3 per cent against the US Dollar in 2022.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka said the Rupee also depreciated against the Euro by 40.7 per cent, the Sterling Pound by 39.8 per cent, the Japanese Yen by 35.1 per cent, the Australian Dollar by 43.1 per cent, and the Indian rupee by 41.7 per cent during the year up to the 10th of June.
The Central Bank said a stabilisation of the exchange rate was observed following the introduction of new exchange rate arrangement on the 13th of May that aimed at curtailing the excessive exchange rate volatility driven by speculation.
Accordingly, from the 13th of May 2022 to-date, the Sri Lankan Rupee recorded a marginal appreciation against the US Dollar.
