Former Minister of Health MP Rajitha Senaratne says a higher number of COVID-fatalities are being reported than reported daily by the government.
Speaking during a media briefing today, MP Senaratne said Sri Lanka’s daily coronavirus deaths are thirtyfold that of India and Pakistan in terms of population.
The Parliamentarian said China’s COVID deaths are at 4,636 compared to its population of 1.43 billion while Sri Lanka’s population is 22 million and has recorded 8,775 deaths.
He said Sri Lanka has recorded nine deaths per million, while India has recorded 0.3, Pakistan 0.3 and Bangladesh 0.7.
Furthermore, MP Senaratne said the method of implementing quarantine curfew in order to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic has failed.
The Parliamentarian said roads are congested with vehicles and charged the government of implementing quarantine curfew merely due to public demand.
MP Senaratne said if a lockdown is to be imposed, it must be done properly.
