Sri Lanka Railways has called for a report regarding the alleged faulty train engines and compartments imported from India.

General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways Dhammika Jayasundara said a report was called from the Railways Sub Department and the Transport Sub Department.

Jayasundara said the Transport Sub Department deploys trains while the Railways Sub Department provides train engines and compartments for the railway service.

He noted Sri Lanka received 10 train engines and six of them have been added to the railway service based on the requirement.

He added three engines were sent for maintenance activities, while an order was placed for 160 train compartments.

It was reported that train compartments purchased by the former good governance government were faulty.

He noted therefore a report was called from the heads of the relevant sub departments, regarding the current situation.

Jayasundara added an investigation will be carried out based on the report.
