Individuals will no longer be required to wear a facemask within indoor and outdoor settings in Sri Lanka.
The directive to remove the mask mandate in Sri Lanka has been issued by the Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena.
The directive has been issued under the Quarantine and Prevention of Disease Ordinance No.03 of 1897.
The mask mandate was imposed first in Sri Lanka following the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
Accordingly, the new directive will be in effect from tomorrow.
The Health Services Director-General said however they continue to encourage persons having respiratory issues to wear a facemask.
The directive also does not prevent persons from wearing a facemask voluntarily.
Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena has announced that a COVID-19 PCR Test or a Rapid Antigen Test should not be conducted as a screening test from tomorrow.
