Sri Lanka has come 13 places up, on the Global Peace Index which lists the most peaceful countries in the world.
According to the 2022 index, Sri Lanka is ranked 90th in the world.
This year’s index was compiled after considering many global factors including terrorist activities, political instability and the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Iceland tops this year’s list of most peaceful countries in the world, followed by New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark and Austria claiming the first five positions respectively.
However, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Russia and South Sudan were placed at the bottom of this year’s index.
90 countries have made progress compared to last year, but 71 countries have come down in rankings on the Global Peace Index.
Australia is 27th on the list of most peaceful countries this year, marking a setback of nine places compared to last year.
The main reason for this downgrade is its dispute with China.
