Leader of the National People’s Power Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake says Sri Lanka is currently facing an economic disaster.

Speaking during an event in the Ratnapura District today, MP Dissanayake said all factions must be prepared to commence the struggle to overthrow the present administration.

The Parliamentarian said there are few strategic points of the economy in countries similar to Sri Lanka adding the US dollar is one of them.

He said the US Dollar appreciating by Rs.1 or Rs.2 between two and three months is negligible.

The NPP Leader said the sudden increase in the value of the dollar to Rs.270 resulted in an economic shock.

MP Dissanayake noted the fuel prices as another strategic point of the local economy.

The MP said the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation increased a litre of petrol by Rs.77 and a litre of diesel by Rs.55, yesterday.

Furthermore, MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said there is one point where the government loses control of the entire economy, adding there will be no return if that occurs.

He said they are observing whether the government will be able to control the prevalent situation.

MP Dissanayake said the President bears an immense responsibility on the matter.

He said the Head of State addressing the nation claimed to provide a kilogram of dhal at Rs.60 and canned fish for Rs.100 adding however a kilogram of dhal is now Rs.360.

The Parliamentarian said it is the responsibility of the President to provide an explanation for the six-fold increase in the price of dhal.

The NPP Leader said Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa last addressed the Parliament on the 10th of December adding the Finance Minister has failed to address the financial situation for more than three months.

He said the President too has failed to provide solutions or outline his plans to deal with the economy on several occasions.

The MP said it is evident that the government has let the country collapse without acting.
