The National Transport Commission will deploy a special bus service from Colombo and suburbs, for individuals who wish to travel to villages during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The bus service will be operated under two phases. The NTC said under the first phase buses will operate from the 8th to the 15th of April.
The government informed that temporary passenger service permits will be issued to bus operators, free of charge, if the demand for bus services at the Bastian Mawatha main bus terminal in Colombo increases.
The buses will begin journey from the Kadawatha, Kaduwela Bus Terminals and the Makumbura Multiple Exchange during this period.
Under the second phase, buses will operate on temporary permits to Galle, Matara, Embilipitiya, Monaragala, Badulla, Hatton, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya based on the demand.
The programme will also include additional buses to ensure there is no shortage of buses during the New Year period.
