The Supreme Court has determined that a special majority in Parliament is required to enact several clauses of the Prevention Of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Amendment Bill.
The determination of the Supreme Court was directed to Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena after the bill was challenged at the Supreme Court.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said accordingly several clauses of the Bill will require amendments and two third majority for certain clauses of the PTA (Temporary Provisions) Amendment Bill.
According to the Supreme Court, if proposed amendments are made or the required number of members vote in favour the Bill can be passed in Parliament.
