A special discussion is scheduled to be held between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Government Medical Officers’ Association at 3.30pm today.
The discussion will focus on several issues including issues relating to transfers and salaries of doctors at the Ministry of Health.
The shortage of medicines will also be discussed.
The discussion however will mainly focus on formulating a Salary Policy to increase and maintain the state sector salaries and allowances in a manner that is fair to all state sector employees without violating the National Salary Policy.
Speaking to NewsRadio, GMOA Executive Committee Member Dr. Ruwan Jayasuriya said they will also discuss moving the Faculty of Medicine of the Wayamba University to Kurunegala since the Kurunegala Hospital has been named a Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Jayasuriya said they expect to reach favourable decisions at the meeting.
