Gotabaya Rajapaksa has directed his letter of resignation as the President of Sri Lanka.
The Speaker’s Media Division when contacted by NewsRadio confirmed that Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena received the letter of resignation.
However, the Speaker’s Media Division stated that the letter will not be disclosed yet, as certain legal procedures must be followed.
President Rajapaksa reportedly directed his resignation to the Speaker via email.
Therefore, Speaker Abeywardena is currently in the process of verifying the letter while advice will be sought from the Attorney General to determine if the letter is acceptable to be publicly issued.
The letter was directed to the Speaker after President Rajapaksa reached Singapore this evening.
