The opposition says it will hold a special discussion with Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today, over the safety and protection of Members of Parliament before making a decision on attending Parliament sessions.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala said they will meet with the Speaker this morning, before the commencement of Parliament sittings.
MP Alawathuwala said they will be in the Parliamentary complex but will not attend Parliament sittings, until the Speaker ensures the safety of MPs within the House.
He added government MPs including the Chief Government Whip have been intimidating Opposition MPs within the chamber itself and had attempted to attack the opposition on two occasions.
The Parliamentarian claimed the they represent the people in Parliament and stand against oppressive actions of the present administration.
MP Alawathuwala said they will oppose the government’s undemocratic policies.
