The Ceylon Electricity Board Employees Union charges that several parts of the island are experiencing power cuts, that are longer than the permitted duration.
Speaking to media, General Secretary of the Association Ranjan Jayalal warned of possible 10-hour long power outages in future.
Jayalal said it is unethical for officials to impose power cuts, exceeding the time duration that is previously announced.
He requested leaders to speak the truth and inform the public of the imminent energy crisis.
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka yesterday informed, that no decision has been reached to increase the duration of scheduled power cuts from next week.
Jayalal also revealed that the CEB will not have sufficient funds to purchase coal by next month.
