Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Wimalaweera Dissanayake says the SLPP will extend its full support for the all-party government.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, MP Dissanayake claimed they have no issues with JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake taking up the Finance Ministry portfolio.
The Parliamentarian said the SLPP possesses the majority in Parliament and as such reached a decision to support the new government.
He said while they have their shortcomings, they will strive to assist those who have identified shortcomings and are working towards resolving issues.
The MP acknowledged that a crisis situation has arisen in the country with fuel and gas shortages and the fertiliser issue.
He said the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation was in possession of 100,000MT of fuel as of yesterday and is engaged in distribution of fuel stocks.
He said all shortcomings need to be addressed.
On a separate note, MP Wimalaweera Dissanayake said a group of individuals destroyed the house he was occupying during the violent events which occurred on the 9th of May.
The MP said setting fire to residences and properties belonging to MPs will not result in the influx of dollars or regular shipments of fuel or gas.
He claimed he may be the only Parliamentarian without state housing.
MP Wimalaweera Dissanayake claimed he was occupying a 74-year-old rundown house belonging to Hingurana Sugar Factory after carrying out minor repairs.
MP Dissanayake warned that the country is heading towards unrest similar to that of 1971, 1987–1989 insurrection and 30 years of civil conflict.
He, therefore, urged the public to refrain from taking the country down such a path.
