Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Sanjeewa Edirimanne has refuted claims by MP Wimal Weerawansa that a group of individuals including himself are attempting to buy over members of the 11 political parties that severed ties with the government.
Speaking to NewsRadio, MP Edirimanne said Renuka Perera, former MP Jayantha Ketagoda, and himself visited the residence of MP Asanka Navaratne during a recent visit to Anuradhapura.
The MP added that MP Weerawansa was outraged when he heard of this development and is therefore levelling baseless allegations.
The Parliamentarian said if a group is working towards snatching the majority of the government, holding discussions towards this is a normal occurrence in order to garner more support.
MP Edirimanne said Renuka Perera has close ties with Asanka Navaratne as he was a former member of the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party and is also a close friend of his father.
The MP claimed that individuals should not create a false sense of patriotism.
