Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna backbenchers have announced that they are prepared to support any faction that can address the current financial issues in the country.
Speaking during a media brief in Colombo today, Parliamentarian Tissa Kuttiarchchi said the prevailing issues will not be solved by removing the President or by overthrowing the government.
MP Tissa Kuttiarchchi noted any faction who has a plan to address the prevailing issues must present it to the President and Prime Minister and hold discussions with the government.
He said they are prepared to support a programme that resolves the crisis, since they are also feeling the pinch right now.
MP Kuttiarchchi claimed they are pumping fuel by being in queues, families are burdened by the increase in prices of vegetables and essential commodities while they are also experiencing power cuts.
The MP noted through protest marches and by conspiring against the current administration, the opposition factions cannot resolve the financial crisis.
He said the present issue is not an internal problem but a dollar crisis which stemmed from a global crisis.
On a separate note, Parliamentarian Tissa Kuttiarchchi said Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa is currently taking steps to resolve these issues.
He said several matters were resolved during the rule of Mahinda Rajapaksa and therefore they are confident that the present administration will be able to resolve the on-going fuel and energy crisis.
The MP added that although the public has forgotten the services rendered by the present administration, when the current issues are resolved, people will acknowledge them.
He said there is no harm in working with India, the United States and China since the country cannot flourish in isolation.
MP Tissa Kuttiarchchi said therefore all factions must support the programme of the present administration.
