The Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Parliamentarian Rauf Hakeem has urged the government to abolish the Prevention of Terrorism Act promptly.
The MP said the government is under immense pressure following Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith’s recent visit overseas.
Speaking to media yesterday, the Parliamentarian said the Cardinal visited the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland and also called on Pope Francis and discussed investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks.
He said High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet in her statement on Sri Lanka implied that investigations must be carried out to determine if security forces were indirectly responsible for the Easter attacks.
MP Hakeem stated that in order to cover up certain matters the government is hurriedly acting over the PTA.
