The 62nd death anniversary of the Founder of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party SWRD Bandaranaike was marked today at the Bandaranaike Memorial in Horagolla.
Several persons including daughters of the former Prime Minister, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and Sunethra Bandaranaike visited the memorial to pay their respects.
Speaking to media following her visit former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said the memorial was organised by the family and not the SLFP, claiming the party only used the Bandaranaike name for its advantage.
She claimed the Chairman of the SLFP, former President Maithripala Sirisena, only visited the memorial once, during his term in office as President.
Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga claimed the former President may visit the memorial today to use the Bandaranaike name once again, and he has been disregarded by all other factions.
Several members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party including Chairman of the SLFP, former President Maithripala Sirisena visited the memorial later in the day to pay his respects this morning.
Speaking to media following the occasion, the former President said the future of the SLFP is also the future of the country.
He noted the SLFP is providing its support to the government and working within the vision of SWRD Bandaranaike according to his policies.
The former President added the SLFP will take his vision and policy forward, which is the highest form of respect.
