The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has demanded the appointment of a caretaker government.
The SLFP in a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has indicated that SLFP will withdraw its support to the present administration unless a caretaker government with all political parties represented in Parliament is appointed immediately to resolve the current economic crisis.
The SLFP in the letter had stated that if the party’s plan is not implemented within the next week, all 14 SLFP MPs will resign from government posts and function as an independent group in Parliament.
Meanwhile, a group of SLFP Parliamentarians met at the residence of former President Maithripala Sirisena last evening to take a decision on whether to remain in the government or not.
However, no decision was announced regarding the matter following the meeting.
