Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage says Sri Lanka will soon become the first country to administer the highest number of booster vaccine doses.
Speaking during a programme in Kandy today, the Minister said certain groups however are spreading baseless claims on social media to imply that Sri Lanka is the only country with COVID cases and related deaths.
Minister Aluthgamage said the President focused on ensuring people’s lives were protected from the coronavirus adding that as a result close to 85-90 percent of the public is now vaccinated.
He noted that the coronavirus situation will ease in a couple of months, adding that subsequently the cost of living will reduce and people’s grievances will be solved, while the government’s promises to the public will be fulfilled.
The Agriculture Minister dismissed allegations that Sri Lanka will face a famine and claimed there will be no food shortage.
He however acknowledged that shortcomings in manufacturing processes could be reported.
The Minister also stated that all such rumours and myths are created through social media.
