Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena says Sri Lanka is following several steps that must be taken to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Gunawardena assumed duties at the Ministry of Education today.
Speaking during the occasion the newly appointed Education Minister said the COVID-19 pandemic is not limited to Sri Lanka.
Minister Gunawardena claimed global efforts are underway to mitigate the pandemic, adding recent outbreaks were reported in several countries that had previously mitigated the virus.
The Minister added the President and government will intervene to ensure steps are taken to save lives, including providing the vaccine.
Joining the occasion State Minister Susil Premajayantha said online education is being carried out in the country to a certain extent.
The State Minister added there are challenges due to the lack of available facilities.
State Minister Premajayantha said three daily newspapers have published the timetable of existing channels and programmes today.
He noted 20 channels will be added to the programme over the next two months, after it commences on the 1st of September.
The State Minister added satellite and internet facilities will also be provided in line with the programme.
