The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says the 20th Amendment to the Constitution must be withdrawn when the President tenders his resignation.
Speaking during a media briefing today, Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara Jayamaha said a large number of government Ministers are also in discussions with the opposition to oust the Head of State.
MP Jayamaha said the opposition will not fall prey to the government’s attempts to establish an interim national government while the President still at the helm.
The Parliamentarian called for the immediate resignation of the Head of State and the Rajapaksas.
He said they are looking into alternative methods of disposing of the President in the event the Head of State refuses to resign.
The MP said the 20th Amendment provides unlimited powers to the President while Prime Minister became a nominal figure.
On a separate note, MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha said a large number of individuals are scheduled to take to streets in Colombo tomorrow against the government.
MP Jayamaha said there are reports of an individual attempting to divert the objective of tomorrow’s public protests.
He said the present administration only has the support of such corrupt individuals after losing public mandate.
The MP said seizing illegally obtained assets of the Rajapaksa family will provide great assistance in strengthening the economy.
