The opposition says the entire country is at a standstill at present in the face of the fuel crisis.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala noted that due to the fuel crisis, power cuts are being imposed while the transport sector has also been affected severely.
He said while the public has been suffering due to the shortage, the government has now increased the fuel prices at reasonable rates.
He said after Rs. 75 increase for a litre of diesel, prices of all products will increase sharply.
MP Alawathuwala noted that due to transport costs, vegetable and fish prices will also rise.
He said the food inflation in the country is about 30 percent at present, while it will increase further.
Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala noted that on the backdrop, people will not be able to afford a meal a day let alone three meals.
