The Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims that various factories are closing down daily, as Sri Lanka is witnessing a shortage in the market for raw materials.
Speaking to media today Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne said he has received news that rigifoam production plants have closed due to the unavailability of raw materials such as granules.
He stressed thousands of workers were left unemployed due to this reason.
MP Senaratne pointed out that farmers were abandoning the profession, medicines are disappearing from shelves amid shortages in raw materials for production as well.
The SJB MP questioned if an economic crisis was also promised in the President’s policy statement.
Commenting on the government’s efforts to direct the public to use liquid milk instead of powdered milk, MP Senaratne said it must be done through a parallel process.
The Parliamentarian questioned what the government has done to develop liquid milk production, although they promote its use.
He proposed that officials import dairy cows to Sri Lanka while granting tax concessions to producers of liquid milk and providing them necessary expert knowledge.
