The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has requested all seat organisers to provide information on Police officers who obstructed supporters in various parts of the country from joining the protest in Colombo on Tuesday.
Speaking during a media briefing today, Parliamentarian Buddhika Pathirana said a form has been issued requesting information on all Policemen from senior DIGs to lower ranking officers adding the party’s legal team will file complaints on grounds of human rights violations after collecting the relevant information.
MP Pathirana said this is the first time in history where the Police disregarded duties and instead engaged in political motives.
The Parliamentarian said the complaints will affect promotions and other aspects of their careers.
On a separate note, MP Pathirana said the proposal made in the 2022 Budget to extend the retirement age of state sector employees to 65 years will create an unrest among youth in the future.
He said the youth that is due to enter the state service was not expanded.
The MP questioned if the government plans to cause an unrest similar to the 1971 and 1987–1989 insurrections through the Budget proposal.
The Parliamentarian also questioned the government’s policy behind the Budget and employment opportunities for youth.
