The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has condemned the increase in several essential goods including medicines under the present circumstances in the country.
Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake speaking at a media briefing today questioned the basis on which the price of drugs was increased, especially when the public is facing various hardships.
The MP said the prices of medicines have increased by 35-40% and questioned if such a price hike amidst a pandemic is required.
MP Attanayake added the public is battered by the high cost of living, while some have salary cuts and some others have lost employment.
The MP also recalled that State Minister Channa Jayasumana recently attributed the hike in medicine prices, in order to avoid a shortage of medicines in the market.
