The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says murders are on the rise, during the term of a government that came in to power promising national security.
Speaking to media today Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala said the present government claimed power at the Presidential and General Elections by promoting nationalism and national security.
He questioned promises of national security, when thugs assault individuals at their homes, and cases of murder were being reported daily in media.
MP Alawathuwala added the underworld is rising again after the government came to power, thus increasing crime rates around the country.
Also speaking at the media briefing, Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman said almost 500,000 employees in import dependent sectors are facing the risk of unemployment due to the government’s import policies.
He reiterated that many industries relying on imports have been affected, due to the imposition of import bans on certain products.
The MP said businessmen and local traders are publicly stating their grievances.
He claimed factory owners are complaining of dollar shortages to import material, which is setting off a chain reaction in unused machinery, resulting in employee layoffs.
