The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says information has been received that the government is attempting to privatise the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation through a five way division.
Speaking to media Parliamentarian Kabir Hashim said a group of government Ministers together with officers of the CPC travelled to Trincomalee in order to inspect the oil tank farm project, with a delegation from India.
Therefore, the MP expressed his suspicions over an underhand deal taking place as the timing of the arrival of a high-level delegation from India was not coincidental.
He said the opposition was left in the dark since they were not given copies of the relevant Cabinet Papers.
The MP warned that Sri Lanka’s national security will be threatened while its power will be questioned if the deal goes ahead.
Meanwhile Parliamentarian Kabir Hashim said the government including the President and Prime Minister must be held accountable if they plan to sell local assets to foreign entities.
