The All Island Bakery Owner’s Association says there will inevitably be a shortage of bakery products including bread in the future.
Speaking to media, President of the Association NK Jayawardena said flour companies claim the shortage of dollars has made it difficult to import raw materials.
Jayawardena said it was revealed during a discussion with flour companies yesterday that companies only received 10% of the required amount of dollars to import raw materials adding they too are helpless.
The President of the Association urged the government to take necessary steps immediately to avoid a catastrophic situation adding the public may not be able to purchase bakery products.
He said bakery owners are also facing a dire situation.
