Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says the present government has put the lives of the farming community in utter chaos.
The Opposition Leader said the government pivoting the agriculture industry to its ruin is a short-sighted move.
MP Sajith Premadasa speaking during an event in Anuradhapura yesterday said the government sought to dismiss the promises they made to farmers, and abruptly brought about the mandatory use of organic fertiliser.
He said according to scientists, in order to reap harvests, a mix of both organic and chemical fertiliser must be used in cultivations.
MP Premadasa said the use of only organic fertiliser will have a negative impact on crops.
He added despite all such advice, the government disregarded all research and findings and progressed with their arbitrary decision to impose a mandatory use of organic fertiliser in cultivation.
