General Shavendra Silva has resigned from the post of Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. General Silva served as the 23rd Commander.
General Silva served in the Army for 39 years and played an instrumental role in the war against the LTTE.
He also served as the Head of the National Centre for the Prevention of the spread of Covid 19.
General Shavendra Silva, who served as the Acting Chief of Defence Staff parallel to the Commander of the Army, will assume duties as the new Chief of Defense Staff of Sri Lanka from tomorrow.
Addressing the Army, Shavendra Silva said he was proud of his service to the army.
He expressed his gratitude to the new Army commander and all war heroes in the country.
General Silva imparted his blessing on all activities of the Sri Lanka Army.
The General further added he had made trustworthiness, loyalty and discipline his principles during his term as the Army Commander.
Shavendra Silva said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was a role model during his tenure and stated as the Army Commander, he endeavoured to do what many said could not be done.
Meanwhile, Major General Vikum Liyanage is due to assume duties as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Army tomorrow.
Major Liyanage will be the 24th Commander of the Sri Lankan Army.
