Several trade unions including the Government Teachers’ Association have decided to continue the strike action related to salary anomalies until one third of the ‘Subodhini’ commission report is received.
Assistant Secretary of the Association Nalaka de Silva said the decision was reached after a discussion held last afternoon.
de Silva said they are disappointed in political deals adding they were on track to receiving one third of the ‘Subodhini’ commission report following which no teacher or principal would have protested for at least four years.
He said certain individuals with political agendas sought to utilise teachers at the upcoming Provincial and Local Authorities Elections and therefore did not accept one third of the ‘Subodhini’ commission report.
Meanwhile Chief Secretary of the National Teachers Power organisation LR Manatunga said it is disheartening that certain groups have once again carried out the same actions similar to the past 24 years.
Manatunga said they disrupted all hopes and dreams of teachers and principals.
He said they will continue the union action until their demands are won.
