The Department of Irrigation says several reservoirs have reached spill level due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
Director of Water Management at the Irrigation Department Engineer D Abeysiriwardena said accordingly several reservoirs including the Rajanganaya Reservoir, Deduru Oya Reservoir and the Mahavilachchiya Reservoir have reached spill level.
Abeysiriwardena said in addition to these reservoirs, many other reservoirs have reached 75 to 80 per cent capacity.
He said six sluice gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir were opened while two sluice gates of the Angamuwa Reservoir were also opened.
Abeysiriwardena added four sluice gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir were opened while the Eru Wewa Reservoir has also reached its capacity, with minor inundation reported.
He said there is no major flood risk for low lying areas.
