Seven persons, who were involved in rackets via social media while staying at a five-star hotel in Slave Island, have been arrested while in possession of narcotics, during a raid carried out by the Walana Anti-Vice Unit.
It was revealed the relevant individuals were living at the hotel, while obtaining funds fraudulently from the public through various means.
It was also confirmed that they were addicted to narcotics.
The chief suspect is a 36-year-old resident of Kandy.
Police said the six other individuals are aged between 22 and 40.
Meanwhile Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Thalduwa said necessary investigations have commenced to take action against the suspects under the Money Laundering Act.
